State Regents' GEAR UP Program Awards More Than $700,000 to Oklahoma Schools
Nov. 29, 2010-- The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s GEAR UP program recently awarded $710,309 in college access subgrants to 28 school districts targeting 36 sites across the state to fund professional development for teachers so they can continue to strengthen learning opportunities and increase student achievement. In addition, the money will provide much-needed funding for financial aid education, student tutoring, mentoring, college prep activities, career exploration and parent workshops.

Regents Receive $75,000 Grant to Create Preparing for College Materials
for Hispanics
November 10, 2003 -- The Oklahoma State Regents
for Higher Education have received a $75,000 grant from Lumina Foundation for
Education to create public engagement materials that help Hispanic students
and their parents understand how to better prepare for college. Specifically,
a Web site and other materials for Spanish-speaking parents and students will
be produced that provide information on the value of a college education, college
costs, financial aid, entrance requirements and what kind of classes to take.
The educational materials will be shared through Hispanic civic organizations,
K-12 schools and higher education institutions.

Enrollment, Scholarship Needs Drive Budget Requests
October 31, 2003 -- Record college enrollment
and the growing participation in the OHLAP scholarship program are among the
items that are driving a total budget request of more than $902.4 million for
FY05. The request includes an increase of $134.6 million from this year’s
current budget. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education approved the
budget request at their meeting in Oklahoma City Thursday.

October 30, 2003 -- Although Oklahoma high schools
have yet to crown their football champions this fall, some state championships

State Regents Name Focus School Districts for GEAR UP
November 30, 2001 -- Thirty-one Oklahoma school districts have been selected to serve as focus districts for year three of the Oklahoma GEAR UP program, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education announced recently. As focus schools, the districts will conduct needs assessments to identify gaps and weaknesses in district services designed to prepare seventh through 12th grade students both academically and financially for college. The results from the assessments will be used to tailor plans for implementing GEAR UP services that will fill those gaps. Oklahoma GEAR UP staff also work directly with the schools to help implement the new programs and services.
