The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education approved today $773.6 million in state appropriations for the state system of higher education for FY 2018, contingent on final approval by Gov. Mary Fallin.

“We recognize this was an extremely difficult budget year,” said Chancellor Glen D. Johnson. “Despite successive years of budget reductions, the State Regents and our 25 public colleges and universities remain committed to providing Oklahoma students a quality higher education opportunity at an affordable cost. Higher education requires adequate resources to produce the additional degrees necessary to meet Oklahoma’s business and industry workforce needs. Data clearly show that states with a high percentage of college degree-holders have higher per capita incomes and stronger, more diversified economies. We will continue to make the case that there is no better investment to ensure a brighter future for Oklahoma than the investment our policy leaders can make in higher education.”

For state colleges and universities, the next step in the budget process is to formulate their operating budgets for FY 2018. These proposed operating budgets will be presented to the State Regents at their June 28 meeting and considered at the June 29 meeting
