For the 20th consecutive year, thousands of Oklahoma eighth- through 12th-grade students will be receiving valuable information that will help them prepare for a college education.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, along with the Oklahoma College Assistance Program, recently distributed more than 230,000 copies of two preparing for college brochures to middle, junior high and high schools statewide.

State Regents officials produced two grade-specific brochures for eighth- through 10th-grade students and for 11th- through 12th-grade students. Both versions of “Design Your Plan for College” inform students about the courses they must take in high school to be admitted to an Oklahoma state college or university.

The brochures also contain financial aid information and details regarding admission standards and placement scores, as well as information about OKcollegestart.org, where students can get additional information. The brochures include information on estimated college costs, hourly wage comparisons for various jobs and information on choosing the right college.

Counselors at both public and State Department of Education-accredited private schools received the brochures and will make them available to their students. The brochures will also be sent to home school organizations and to the state’s public libraries.

“Gathering college prep information can be time-consuming and overwhelming. These free publications will provide students and their parents the tools they need to make their plans for college,” said Chancellor Glen D. Johnson.

In addition to the preparing for college brochures, the State Regents distributed other materials to counselors to help them provide students with additional information about attending college.

High school counselors received “The Counselors’ Resource Book to Oklahoma Colleges and Universities,” which provides a short profile on each Oklahoma college and university and includes information on preparing for college, college costs and financial aid, and the “Are You Looking for Money?” booklet, a “one-stop” reference guide of information about grants, scholarships and federal student loans.

Students, parents and counselors can also view, print or order the publications online at www.okhighered.org/students/publications.
