Northeastern State University honors former legislative leaders Adair, Rozell

Northeastern State University recently announced the creation of two prestigious programs to honor former Okla. House Speaker Larry Adair and Sen. Herb Rozell for their 50 years of combined service to the state of Oklahoma and their respective districts. The legislators officially stepped down from their posts in Nov. 2004.

Larry Adair Lectureship Series

Larry Adair

The Larry Adair Lectureship Series in Government and Public Policy honors and preserves the legacy of former Okla. House Speaker Larry Adair who gave 22 years of service to District 86 and his fellow Oklahomans. An annual series presented in the spring (beginning in 2005), the prestigious lectureship will be funded by private donations to the NSU Foundation and will address current topics in the study of politics, government and public policy for scholars, educators and the general public.

"Speaker Adair shaped some of the most important legislative issues in the last two decades and he rose to a leadership position by displaying the values that endeared him to the people of his district and earned him the trust of all Oklahomans,” said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Speaker Adair and develop this lectureship series in a manner that will honor his service and preserve his legacy.”

Senator Herb Rozell Scholar Program

Herb Rozell

In honor of the outstanding works and deeds of former Okla. Sen. Herb Rozell, Northeastern announced the Senator Herb Rozell Scholar Program. Rozell dedicated 28 years of public service to District 3 and the people of northeastern Oklahoma during his career as an Okla. Senator.

A prestigious annual scholarship presented in spring beginning in 2005, the Senator Herb Rozell Scholars Program will honor NSU students who have demonstrated tremendous campus and community leadership, outstanding scholastic achievement, and exhibit a commitment to excellence for the future. Funded by private donations to the NSU Foundation, the unique program funds each recipient’s (Sen. Herb Rozell Scholar) expenses for the following year.

"I have never met a legislator or a man that is more devoted to and aware of his responsibility to help others than Senator Rozell,” said President Williams. “As an educator, administrator, coach, city councilman, father, grandfather, husband and senator, his unassuming manner and selfless service have done more for Tahlequah, NSU and all of northeastern Oklahoma than we could ever repay, but we hope this Scholars program will become an avenue to honor his service and continue his legacy of helping others.”

Those interested in honoring Larry Adair or Herb Rozell by contributing to the Larry Adair Lectureship Series in Government and Public Policy or the Senator Herb Rozell Scholar Program should contact the Northeastern State University Foundation at 918.458.2143. Each will be notified of all gifts received in their honor.
