UCO names Oklahoma native Joe Muller as new athletic director
University of Central Oklahoma President W. Roger Webb has named Joseph C. Muller as the university’s new athletic director. Muller comes to UCO from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., where he serves as the senior associate athletic director/external relations. Muller has deep roots in Oklahoma. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, receiving both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from OSU, and is a graduate of Stillwater High School, as well. Muller served as the associate athletic director/development and external relations at OSU, and has had extensive executive level positions in the media, including the role of general manager of KOCB/WB 34 and KOKH/FOX 25 in Oklahoma City from 1996-2000. “Joe brings a wealth of experience to our athletic department that will help us continue to grow and compete on a national level in Division II athletics,” Webb said. “I am extremely proud of all of our coaches and athletic programs, and I have every confidence that Joe’s principled leadership and vision will ensure the continued development of our programs to help make them, and our student athletes, the best they can be.” Muller said he is excited about the future of UCO athletics. “Under President Webb’s leadership, so many positive things are happening at UCO, and I am excited to be a part of it,” Muller said. “I am absolutely thrilled about the opportunity and can’t wait to get to UCO and get going.” Muller said he and his family would begin to look for a home in Edmond as soon as possible. He will start his duties as UCO athletic director on July 1. Mueller will lead the university’s 13 athletic teams, including men’s football, basketball, baseball, golf, and wrestling teams and the women’s basketball, cross country, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball teams. UCO is a member of the Lone Star Conference, and collectively the Broncho athletic teams hold numerous conference titles and NCAA Division II playoff berths to their names. Recent notable achievements include the Broncho wrestling team securing its 15th national title in 2007, a conference championship and Elite Eight NCAA tournament appearance for the men’s basketball team in 2008 and a conference championship and Sweet Sixteen NCAA tournament appearance for the women’s soccer team. |
