April 21, 2008 :: Final Technology Center Enters Into Cooperative Alliance Agreement

The cooperative alliance initiative, which creates more student-centered partnerships among Oklahoma colleges and technology centers, continues to expand.

Oklahoma State University Technical Branch – Okmulgee, Rogers State University, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and Tulsa Community College have partnered with Tri County Technology Center to form a cooperative alliance agreement. Students attending TCTC can begin participating in fall 2008.

With this agreement, all 29 technology centers and 16 public higher education institutions in the state are now participating in the initiative.

Cooperative alliance agreements allow adults and qualified high school or home-schooled students the opportunity to enroll in technical courses taught at partnering technology centers for college credit that leads to an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree or college certificate.

In fall 2006, 4,217 adult and high school students enrolled in more than 35,000 credit hours. The number increased in fall 2007 with 4,565 students enrolled in more than 37,000 credit hours.

“These partnerships utilize the resources of both higher education and career technology education in ways that efficiently and effectively improve services and opportunities for students,” Chancellor Glen D. Johnson said. “Through this program, high school and adult students will continue to have increased access to programs which lead to a college degree.”

High school students must score at least a 19 on the ACT or a 15 on the ACT PLAN test in the 10th grade or have a minimum 2.5 grade point average to be admitted to an AAS program. They must also provide a letter of support from a high school counselor and written permission from a parent or legal guardian. There is an open admissions policy for students who have already graduated from high school.
