OPSU Rewarded for Program of Excellence

At the February 11, 2010 meeting of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE), the Regents approved continued funding of Oklahoma Panhandle State University's Program of Excellence grant. This means OPSU will have $132,491.00 added every year to its budget on an ongoing basis to continue the Program of Excellence in the Computer Information Systems (CIS) department.

The grant was initially funded by OSRHE five years ago to expand the CIS program. Already an outstanding part of the School of Business and Technology, the award allowed OPSU to hire an additional faculty member, develop a degree in computer graphics, update and revise the curriculum, and purchase additional equipment, particularly storage and network components. The grant also funded faculty development and training in this fast-paced, ever-changing field. In fact, Joe Breeden is in the process of completing the Autodesk Certified Instructor training, the highest certification available for teaching the Maya computer graphics and 3-D modeling software; less than 25 people in the world have attained that distinction. Vicki Pasque completed a Master of Science degree in information assurance (computer security) and faculty members plan to add an option for computer security to the curriculum.

Thanks to the additional funds, OPSU will continue to enhance the popular CIS program and arm its expanding number of degree seekers with the highest quality, most up-to-date education.
