OSU-OKC Offers Free Tax Assistance Program

OSU-Oklahoma City’s Business Technologies Division is a community Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program site throughout the month of February. The assistance program offers free 2011 tax return preparation to qualifying taxpayers.

To schedule an appointment, visit www.osuokc.edu/vita. Appointments can be made Friday through Sunday, February 3-26. Available time slots are noon to 8 p.m. Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Walk-ins are welcome, but scheduled appointments are preferred.

To qualify, you must be an Oklahoma taxpayer with an annual income of generally less than $50,000. Qualifying individuals must have several items present for return completion including all tax documents and proof of identity. For a detailed list of qualifications and requirements, visit www.osuokc.edu/vita.

Under IRS guidelines, OSU-OKC’s VITA volunteers are instructed to refer taxpayers to a professional tax preparer if they have a complex tax situation. Your tax appointment will begin with a screening process to determine if you have all the necessary documents and whether the OSU-OKC volunteers will be qualified to prepare your return.

Returns will be prepared and e-filed for free. According to the IRS e-file refund cycle chart, returns accepted by the IRS in February should be sent for direct deposit within two weeks. Paper checks will take approximately one additional week.

The OSU-OKC VITA site is located on campus in the Business Technologies Building in room 103. OSU-OKC is located at 900 N. Portland Ave.
