University Center Foundation Acquires Large Land Donation

The University Center Foundation Inc. is proud to announce its largest donation since its capital campaign in 2011.

Mary Zimmerman Inskeep, former longtime Ponca City philanthropist, has donated approximately 10 acres of land located in the industrial park of Ponca City.

The land had been in Mrs. Zimmerman’s family since the land run of the Cherokee Strip. Zimmerman and her husband are also noted for donating the land to help establish Westminster Village, now Via Christi, in Ponca City. Mary Zimmerman also worked with fellow Ponca City resident Carol Bouldin in creating the Country Market & Tea Room. Additionally, she was a past member of the 20th Century Club, 4 o’clock Garden Club and the 1st Presbyterian Church. When asked about her decision to donate the land, Zimmerman said “From my early teenage days, I have many fond memories of Ponca City. My family owned this land for many years. I’m happy to donate it to the University Center where affordable higher education is available to many.”

The University Center Foundation secures and raises funds each year to provide financial assistance to individuals attending classes at the UC. Last year the UC Foundation awarded more than 150 scholarships and nearly $30,000 to students who attended classes at the UC. In May 2017, the UC reported 58 graduates with their associate, bachelor's and master's degrees.

Adam Leaming, UC CEO stated, “I’m just in awe, very excited, and very grateful to Mary Zimmerman as this donation reflects a great commitment to ensure the UC Foundation has funds to create more opportunities for our future students to see success in Ponca City." Leaming continued “several of our students are working adults who have sacrificed their time and resources to make a decision to better themselves, and I’m excited to see this gift being used for assisting more students at the UC.”

Pat Collogan, the UCF Chair, stated that “private donations are the lifeblood of the University Center’s mission to maximize the positive effect it can have on local students and citizens. All gifts, big or small, have a profound impact on our community, but a gift like Mrs. Zimmerman’s will truly have an immeasurable effect on so many people for years and years to come.”

The UC boasts having three separate computer labs for student use, onsite academic advisement five days a week, proctoring and testing services, sixteen classrooms and several study areas for student use. The UC also offers concurrent enrollment opportunities for area high school students wishing to begin their college education sooner. The UC partners with Northern Oklahoma College, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and the Oklahoma State Spears School of Business to bring courses, seminars, and degrees to Ponca City.
