SWOSU receives USDOE grants

Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford recently received confirmation of three grants and two cooperative agreements in the amount of $399,231. The majority of the funding came from a $367,565 grant from the U.S Department of Education for the continuing Upward Bound program at SWOSU. Principal investigator is LouAnn Largent.

The grant supports an outreach program, as well as a residential summer program, that is designed to encourage first generation, economically disadvantaged high school students to meet the academic and social challenges of higher education.

Other awards were:
…..$20,488 cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to support training to BIA personnel in special education topics as they relate to paraprofessionals in residential situations at BIA schools. The principal investigator of the cooperative agreement is Dr. Lessley Price.
…..$6,000 cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a child nutrition program with the Upward Bound program. Principal investigator is LouAnn Largent.
…..$4,700 grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council to support the 34th annual SWOSU Jazz Festival that will be held February 12-13, 2004. The grant supports the development of a better appreciation and understanding of jazz among students, faculty and the public that are served by the University. The principal investigator of the grant is Dr. Terry Segress.
…..$478 grant from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to support training provided by the Oklahoma Governor’s Safety Conference. In addition, funds were provided for the purchase of public safety equipment. The principal investigator of the grant is Don Groth.
