It’s time for Cowboy and Sooner fans to put their community and team spirit to the test and earn bragging rights during the fourth annual Bedlam Canned Food Drive to benefit the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State University and University of Oklahoma fans will compete to see who can raise the most canned food donations now through Monday, Nov. 30. The OSU-OU Bedlam football game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28 in Norman.

Community Food Bank organizers say the competition comes during a critical time of declining food donations while the need for food assistance is up by 40 percent. The most needed items include tuna, peanut butter, juice, pasta sauce, vegetables, soup and stew.

OSU fans can score points for the Cowboys by donating non-perishable food items at several locations in the Tulsa area. OSU-Tulsa will have drop boxes located in the North Hall Lobby, Main Hall Commons and the first floor of Administration Hall. Donations will also be accepted at OSU’s Center for Health Sciences and any Arvest Bank location in the Tulsa and surrounding areas.

OU won the first competition in 2006, but OSU rallied for victories the past two years. During last year’s Bedlam food drive, OSU beat OU by 450 pounds. A total of 13,680 pounds of food was donated to the 450 Partner Programs served by the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. The programs include emergency food pantries, after-school programs, senior citizens centers, soup kitchens and various shelters.

The annual Bedlam food drive is sponsored by the Tulsa Chapter of the OSU Alumni Association, the OU Club of Tulsa and Arvest Bank.
