John Hennessey, Higher Education Chief Information Officer

As Oklahoma’s higher education chief information officer, I am uniquely positioned to advance technology collaborations for the State Regents, our state’s higher education institutions and OneNet. I seek innovative solutions that will benefit the system and create cost savings for our institutions.

I work in partnership with the State Regents’ Council on Information Technology (CoIT). The council’s membership is comprised of the principal information technology leader from each higher education institution. The council addresses technology issues for the higher education system and recommends technology and related policies. Together, we collaborate on the operation of information technology, network and security related systems at each of the higher education institutions to improve technology implementation across the state.

Achieving costs savings is a key priority in my role, and through my partnerships in higher education, I am able to pursue my two main goals in coordinating cost savings. First, we collect and disseminate information to yield optimum system operations and cost savings. Second, we identify opportunities to leverage economies of scale through purchasing consortiums and shared services.

In addition to my CIO role, I have the pleasure of serving as associate vice chancellor for IT and OneNet. I provide leadership for OneNet’s exceptional team in achieving its mission to advance technology and high-speed internet access to Oklahoma’s education, research, health care and government organizations.

When I accepted this role in February 2022, I hoped that my experience in higher education, libraries and tribal nations would benefit both the State Regents and OneNet. I will strive to build upon this experience to meet the mission-critical needs of both our higher education institutions and the communities OneNet serves throughout Oklahoma.

I invite you to join in our efforts to expand information technology services across higher education and ultimately impact economic growth and opportunities for the citizens of our state.

Best regards,

John Hennessey
