Weathernews Inc. (WNI) has been a long-time partner of the University of Oklahoma, focused on radar, weather and climate applications. WNI has two Innovation Centers – one in Japan and one at the OU University Research Campus in Norman (Oklahoma Innovation Center) – for researching and developing methods for analyzing observation data for natural phenomena. Weathernews and OU recently jointly hosted the 12th annual Technical Workshop at the National Weather Center on the OU campus, which featured research and marketing presentations and discussion. WNI also established the endowed Weathernews chair and the Weathernews endowed scholarship. WNI’s Oklahoma Innovation Center has hired many OU alumni over the long partnership, and has a staff member who is now pursuing a Ph.D. at OU in electrical engineering.
