Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Seaboard Foods have worked together for over 25 years to improve workforce development in the Oklahoma Panhandle region. Seaboard Foods, a pork production company, started building farms in the 1990s. Today, farm operations are located in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Texas and Iowa. Seaboard Foods is dedicated to serving the local community by supporting charities and organizations and providing academic resources. Seaboard Foods plays an important role in the education of students in OPSU’s agriculture and business programs by offering internships, tours, work opportunities and recruiting at college fairs. Additionally, the company’s “Winternship” Program, which began in 2010, gives students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the industry and network with company experts, helping to define career paths and understand value added agriculture. Many students from OPSU even secure management-level positions at Seaboard Foods before graduation.
